Molalla election results

Happy Election Day!  Results are in for the communities of the Molalla River School District. For the first time in decades, citizens have created a new local government in Clackamas County, apparently voting by a wide margin in favor of the Molalla Aquatic District to run Molalla’s only public pool. Results as of 10:54 on election night showed 1,796 votes in favor and 1,127 votes against.

Creation of the district brings with it a new crop of elected volunteers to serve the Molalla area. Vote tallies were close in some cases, but unofficial returns show the following five leading the pack among the seven candidates running for a seat on the new district’s board:

  • Claire Ferlan (1,382)
  •  Neal Lucht (1,332)
  •  Paula Beck (1,324)
  •  Teresa Steinbock (1,141)
  •  Marilyn Bloch (1,133)

The pool, at 432 E. Frances St., has been mostly shuttered since the City of Molalla in Sept. 2014 backed out of an agreement to operate the facility. Look here for pool updates in the coming weeks and months.

In other Molalla-area election news, Jennifer Satter appears to have beaten Leonard Sano in the only contested race for the school district’s board. Both filed for the seat after incumbent Liz Cruthers decided not to run for a second term. Late-night election results showed Satter ahead 1,190 to 737.
